Kerry has less than four months to achieve peace

It’s January of 2014 leaving our Secretary of State John Kerry less than 4 months to achieve peace in the Middle East between the Israelis and the Palestinians.  Kerry has been praised for his passionate attempt to obtain peace between these two but many still have their doubts.

John Kerry has introduced a framework agreement for the Middle East that he feels would be a great basis and foundation to ultimately ensure peace for this region.  However it has been said the Palestinians do not want a partial peace.  They want negotiations to lead to a final result and for there to be no more issues.

John Kerry had this to say though, “I want to reiterate: We are not working on an interim agreement…We are working on a framework for negotiations that will guide and create the clear, detailed, accepted road map for the guidelines for the permanent-status negotiations and can help those negotiations move faster and more effectively.”

Kerry realizes his crunch for time and has repeatedly urged both sides to not worry about the fine details or the little day to day issues.  He has also traveled to Jordan and Saudi Arabia to get the support from their kings in an attempt to help negotiations.  Needless to say the next 3-4 months will be interesting.

Satanist seeking to construct monument in Oklahoma

In 2012 the Oklahoma state Capitol authorized a privately funded statue of the Ten Commandments to be constructed.  To many people, this is accepted and admired since the United States was founded as a Christian nation, but there is actually a lawsuit in progress to have the monument removed.

That’s not our story though.  As a result of the Ten Commandments being set up at the Capitol, there are some other groups trying to get their own monument constructed there as well.  The most adamant of these is a group of Satanists.

This group is fighting to construct a statue of Satan as Baphomet, a goat-headed figure with horns, wings and a long beard which is often used as a symbol of the occult. Satan will also be sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with smiling children next to him.

If the lawsuit against the Ten Commandments is successful I do not see how another monument representing another faith could be built.  Others placing an entry for a monument along with the Satanists are a Hindu leader and the satirical Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

If a monument is allowed to be constructed at the Capitol I think a vote would be interesting.  Do we select the Ten Commandments which represent law and order, or Satan, the Father of lies, or a Flying Spaghetti Monster?  I suppose that would depend on your preference or possibly your appetite.

Americans want Marijuana

Also in the US, a new poll shows 55% of Americans would like to legalize marijuana.  In 1987 when this same poll was taken only 16% of Americans supported the legalization of marijuana.

Now there were differences depending on regions, age, and so on but amazingly only the majority of people of age 65 and above opposed this idea.  Aside from the senior citizens, the majority of Republicans and southerners opposed the legalization of marijuana.

As always it’s been a pleasure updating you on the events taking place in our world today.  A world where politicians use a different name for same thing expecting people to think it is truly something different. Also a nation where some would like marijuana to be available for all and a flying spaghetti monster to be lifted above the Ten Commandments.
