He also revealed another initiative: the US will form a coalition of businesses that support the protection of religious freedom.
US President Donald Trump hosted a meeting regarding religious freedom around the world and vowed to protect people of faith across the globe at the UN on Monday.
“As president, protecting religious freedom is one of my highest priorities and always has been,” he said.
In his remarks, Trump announced that his administration would dedicate an additional $25 million “to protect religious freedom and religious sites and relics.” He also revealed another initiative: the US will form a coalition of businesses that support the protection of religious freedom.
“This is the first time this has been done,” Trump said. “This initiative will encourage the private sector to protect people of all faith in the workplace, and the private sector has brilliant leadership. Too often, people in positions of power preach diversity while silencing, shunning or censoring the faithful. True tolerance means respecting the right of all people to express their deeply held religious beliefs.”
