The US and Turkey are taking a big gamble on Syria

President Barack Obama and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are both taking a big gamble as they agree to work together against the Islamic State group militants in Syria.

 

Their goals, while overlapping in some ways, are far different in others, mainly on the question of how to handle Kurdish militants battling Islamic State fighters in Syria.

 

And that’s the problem.

 

Erdogan wants to combat Islamic State militants in his country who had flown freely across the border with Syria.
