Palestinians: Hundreds injured in West Bank and Gaza demonstrations
Palestinian riots continued to rock the West Bank and Gaza Sunday, although the number of participants among them are dwindling as Israeli Security Forces clamp down on unrest.
The Red Crescent, the main emergency medical service organization in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, said that 332 Palestinians were wounded in clashes with security forces on Sunday alone.
All in all, 51 Palestinians in the West Bank were injured by live fire from Israeli security forces, 71 by rubber bullets and six suffered from burns. In the Gaza Strip, 32 people were injured in clashes with security forces.
Hamas senior official, Ismail Radwan, said that his organization was alarmed about the tactics Israeli forces were using to control violent demonstrations in the coastal enclave.
“Israel is committing massacres against the Palestinian people,” Radwan said.
“An innocent civilian’s house was bombed which killed a woman and her child” Radwan added, referencing a retaliatory strike Israel conducted Saturday evening after earlier rocket fire emanati
ng from the Gaza Strip landed in the Ashkelon regional council. No injuries or damage was reported in the attack.
Nur Hassan, 31, along with her infant daughter were both killed in the Gaza strike.
Meanwhile, the Arab League granted a request by the Palestinian Authority and will hold an emergency meeting Tuesday to discuss recent events centering on the West Bank and Gaza Strip. A PA representative who made the request said that discussions will focus on Palestinian grievances, particularity al-Aqsa mosque, in an effort to stop “radical Zionists desecrating it under the auspices of occupation forces.”
