“In fact, one of your lead experts wrote an email to us after the deal looking for further consultations to see where our joint efforts produced a result,” Sherman said, explaining that Israeli experts advised the Americans on the redesign of the Arak reactor and issues of weaponisation.

 

The Arak research reactor will be rebuilt so that it does not produce plutonium as a waste product. Without this step, it would have turned out enough material for two warheads each year.

 

Sherman also rejected Israel’s claims that it had been kept in the dark during the marathon talks in Vienna, saying that she had spoken to Israel’s National Security Advisor Yossi Cohen three times while she was in Vienna, “we have had extraordinary close consultations with Israel all along the way,” she said.
