Israel is weak, isolated without the US

Zionist Union MK Tzipi Livni slammed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for supposedly ruining Israel’s relationship with the United States.

 

Speaking at an Israel Bar Association conference in Eilat on Tuesday, Livni said that the prime minister “committed the original sin of intervening in American domestic politics and ruined relations with US,” referring to Netanyahu’s speech to US Congress without the approval of US President Barack Obama.

 

Livni, former foreign minister came out against those who dismiss the significance of cooled Israel-US relations, saying that “Without support from the US, we are weak and isolated. Without US support, we cannot fight as long in war, nor achieve our aims so that the postwar situation will be better.”

 

She said that Israel needs to be strong not just militarily, but also diplomatically. “There are those who wrongly think that if you talk tough, Israel will be strong. They are wrong.”

 

She went on to conjure Netanyahu’s pre-election warning that “the right-wing government is in danger. Arab voters are going en masse to the polls. Left-wing NGOs are bringing them on buses.” He later retracted the statement after his re-election
