Should We Seek the Gift of the Holy Ghost Today?

Many Christians claim they speak in tongues just like Christians did in the early church. Is this possible? Should Christians seek for this gift or should they avoid it? We’ll tell you what the Bible says on this edition of End of the Age.

  1. Ive grown up in a pentecostal church and was taught that to be saved you have to get the gift of tongue, as i got older the church seem to be very religous and all about rules , not true fellowship , lots of judgemental people and it was pushing me away i felt like i had to please the people. i started going to a baptist church and really enjoyed the preaching, fellowship and people seem to be same in church as out of church, i started to enjoy going to church. i dont agree on everything but growing up looking at people who claim to have holy spirit did not act like they did and these people truley Love God , its a small church nothing fancy so its not aboutvthe money , i see them doing it for the rigjt reasons, so how can i say they dont have the holy spirit if their fruit and actions prove otherwise. i also started to read bible to verfy the things i was taught and some of it is man made or misinterperd.
why did jesus tell Nicodimas you cant enter kingdom iff your not baptised in water and spirit? pentecost hasnt happened yet they didnt even know when it will come , they just knew. and how did the guy on the cross got saved when jesus said he’ll be with him in the kingdom that day, he defintley wasnt baptized in spirit and water unknown.
it seems to me Jesus would made it more specific that you must speak in tongue to have holy spirit, also i heard a pastor tell me that tongues were seized that theirs no more mentioning of tongues later in the new testament. i just read that 2 or 3 speak in tongue and 1 interpet, i rarely heared interpetation church, also some people seen visions which made no sense and church leaders sitting there guessing what it meant. wouldnt God be more clear on things? also at age 14 i prayed for Holy spirit and was baptized , but i start to dout it because they would tell us let it flow dont stop it and some would say repeat after me, thinking now seams little off, during pentecost they werwnt begging for the spirit it came to them they werent expecting it . ive done alot research and both tongue speakers and none make a good argument. ive prayed and ask God for confirmation , nothing yet.
sorry for thw long comment, whats your advice , i Love the Baptist church but i do want to teach my young kids the truth and i want to be concrete on my decision.
    God bless!!

      Hello Toly,

Please consider the scriptures. The Apostles knew they didn’t have the Holy Ghost, when Jesus ascended into Heaven. Because He told them to wait until they were filled with the Holy Ghost.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Now, how did they know when they received the Holy Ghost? Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

This was the evidence that they received the Holy Ghost. Do you believe that God is the same, yesterday, today and forever? Because Peter said to those in Jerusalem, Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

He said it is for as many as the Lord God shall call!

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

Paul says one is a prayer language, that we speak mysteries unto God and the other is a gift of prophecy to edify the church.

As far as tongues stopping, most people say that because of this scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
The problem with that is “that which is perfect” hasn’t come yet, this is referring to Jesus returning. We can understand that this has happened because knowledge hasn’t vanished. We are increasing in knowledge and understanding all the time. Why do you think we have to get an upgraded phone so often, because man are learning more and more about these type of technologies.

Besides this, Paul tells us to pray always in the Spirit/unknown tongue.
Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints

      And Jude says this
Jude 1:18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Wasn’t the tongues that they were speaking in Acts 2, gift of tongues because they were speaking in a language that they did not understand, but others that were standing there heard their own language, which would be tongues of men, not the angels. That would mean that God gave them the gift of tongues. Correct?

  3. Excellent teaching as always Irvin.
Many ask their Priest or Pastor if speaking in Tongues as the Spirit gives utterance is needed to be Saved and they say something like,”Definitely not.”
Or many say something like,”I don’t know if I want to get involved in that speaking in tongues thing, that’s a little too weird and hardcore for me.”
They say that because they don’t know about the following scriptures, or have ignored them. Please note the information below is not taught at any Catholic or Protestant Church, nor is it taught at any Catholic or Protestant Seminary School, or at any Catholic or Protestant Divinity School.
The following is some word for word scriptures about speaking in Tongues as the Spirit gives utterance:
Jesus said in Mark 16:17,”And these signs shall follow them that believe, In my name shall they cast out devils, they shall SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES.” Jesus previously told his disciples in Acts 1:8,”But you will receive POWER after the Holy Ghost is come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto ME both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.”
Acts 2:3-4, (at Pentecost),”And it appeared to unto them cloven TONGUES LIKE AS OF FIRE, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST, and they began TO SPEAK WITH OTHER TONGUES as the SPIRIT GAVE THEM UTTERANCE.”
Acts 8:14-17,”Now when the apostles, which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John. 15 Who when they were come down, prayed for them that they MIGHT RECEIVE THE HOLY GHOST. 16 For as yet he was fallen upon none of them, only they were BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS. 17 Then LAID THEY THEIR HANDS ON THEM and they RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST.”
Acts 9:17-18, (Paul’s baptism)”And Ananias went his way and entered into the house, and PUT HIS HANDS ON HIM and said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto you in the way as you came, has sent me, that you might receive your sight, AND BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes that as it had been scales, he received his sight forthwith, and arose, and was BAPTIZED.”
Acts 10:44-48, (Peter speaking to Cornelius and those with him), “While Peter yet spake these words, THE HOLY GHOST FELL ON THEM which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, that on the Gentiles also was poured out the GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. 46 For they heard them SPEAK WITH TONGUES and magnify God, and then answered Peter. 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be BAPTIZED, which have received the HOLY GHOST as well as we. 48 And he commanded them to be BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD.”
In Acts 19:1-6, Paul met 12 believers in Ephesus and asked them, 2 Have you received the Holy Ghost since you BELIEVED? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were you baptized? And they said unto John’s baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS. 6 And when Paul LAID HIS HANDS ON THEM, the Holy Ghost came on them, and they SPOKE WITH TONGUES and prophesied.” Those scriptures prove that just because a person is a believer does not mean they are automatically saved, and just because a person is a believer does not mean they automatically have the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit.
Jesus said in John 7:38-39,”He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly SHALL FLOW RIVERS OF LIVING WATER. 39 But this he spoke of the SPIRIT, which they that believe on him should receive, for the HOLY GHOST was not yet given, because that Jesus was not yet glorified.”
Paul said in Galatians 1:12 that he was not taught by any man, but was taught by Jesus himself, which means that everything Paul said was exactly what Jesus told him to do.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:2,”He that SPEAKS IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE EDIFIES HIMSELF….”
Paul said that Jesus said in 1 Corinthians 14:21,”In the law it is written, With men of other TONGUES and other lips will I speak unto this people, and yet for all that, THEY WILL NOT HEAR ME, saith the Lord.” Verse 39 says,”Wherefore brethren, covet to prophesy, AND FORBID NOT TO SPEAK WITH TONGUES.”
The following scriptures prove that when a person first speaks with tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, it is at that moment the Spirit of Christ initially dwells in them:
Paul said in Galatians 3:27,”For as many of you as have been BAPTIZED into Christ HAVE PUT ON CHRIST.”
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:22,”Wherefore TONGUES are for a SIGN (or PROOF they received the Holy Ghost)….”
Paul said in Romans 8:9-11,”But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, HE IS NONE OF HIS. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies BY HIS SPIRIT THAT DWELLS IN YOU.” That is referring to being raised up to meet Jesus in the air at the Rapture which is referred to in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, which Paul also wrote. If a person has not been baptized in Jesus name, meaning Jesus name is said at baptism which is Acts 2:38, Acts 8:14-18, Acts 8:38, Acts 9:17-18, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 16:15, Acts 16:33, Acts 18:7, Acts 18:8, Acts 19:3-5, and Acts 22:16 – which all of those WERE FOR THE REMISSION OF SIN, and has not been baptized with Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit, they will not have that Spirit that will allow them to meet Jesus in the air at the Rapture, and therefore not be saved. All the above is exactly what Jesus meant in John 3:7,”You MUST be born again.” In John 3:5 he said,”Verily, verily I say unto you, Except a man be born of water AND of the Spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of God.” Regarding Baptism – Jesus said in Mark 16:16,”He that believes and is BAPTIZED shall be saved, but he that believes not shall be damned.” There Jesus links not being baptized with damnation. Being born of water is being immersed in water (baptized) in Jesus name, being born of the Spirit is being baptized with the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit. If you are interested in being baptized in Jesus name and being baptized with the Holy Ghost – call End Time and ask to speak to Dave Robbins or Doug Norvell and they will tell you of a Church near you that will do that. Or you can do a search and type in,”United Pentecostal Church International”, then slightly scroll down to the red box, then type in your zip code and city. A screen will show a Church near you that baptizes in water in Jesus name and you will likely be baptized with the Holy Ghost before you leave.
No Catholic Church will do it because they condemn water baptism in Jesus name, declared it invalid, and used the word INVALID in the New Catholic Encyclopedia Volume 2, page 66, the Catholic Encyclopedia, also in Catholic Catechism 232, 233, and 1226-1284, and also in Chapter 7 of the 16 chapter Catholic Didache. No Protestant Church will do it because they teach water baptism is not needed, nor was it done in Jesus name.
Jesus said in John 10:37,”My Sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
