The Real Armageddon

There are a lot of different terms you hear thrown around to refer to the end of the world.  You have likely heard the term “apocalypse” used in reference to this and it may have been associated with zombies or something absurd.  There is another term thrown around a lot that is completely blown out of proportion and it is the dreadful, Armageddon.

Hearing this word probably triggers some thought in your head because this is a familiar term.  Some people instantly become terrified because even uttering such a term brings bad things about.  Be comforted in knowing that is not true.  Others assume this is just the end of the world and synonymous to the apocalypse; again that’s wrong.  There are some who think of this ginormous meteor that will come crashing to the earth depredating everything, to no surprise, that’s incorrect.  Movie buffs probably think about Bruce Willis and the film he starred in titled, “Armageddon,” however, once again Armageddon was portrayed incorrectly.  The word Armageddon is found one time in scripture in Revelation 16:16.  Armageddon is a war that takes place immediately before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.  This epic battle with consist of the armies of the Antichrist coming against Israel to annihilate her.  Revelation 16 speaks of the kings of the east coming and Ezekiel 38-39 shows northern powers coming to this battle.  Zechariah 14:2 plainly tells us all nations come against Jerusalem to battle.  Once we put everything together, we understand Armageddon is a battle where all the forces of the Antichrist come against the nation of Israel.   During this battle it will actually appear that Israel is about to be wiped from the pages of history but Revelation 19 shows Jesus Christ descending from heaven with His armies to join the battle.  Talk about a game changer.  The armies of the Antichrist won’t stand a chance and they are going to be so confused.  Joel 2:8 shows the armies of the Lord will fall on swords but not be wounded.  That means the troops of the Antichrist will shoot the armies of God or try to kill them but they will just keep charging at them because the weapons will have no effect.  You can probably conclude by now the Lord and His armies, which will consist of those who are saved, will come and end the battle of Armageddon.

There is no telling where some of these concepts and ideas about Armageddon came from but the Bible gives us the truth.  Armageddon is the final battle before the establishment of the kingdom of God on the earth.  Forget about all the “hocus pocus” you’ve heard about Armageddon and stick with an infallible source of truth.  Besides, it’s going to pretty sweet to be a part of God’s army during the battle.
