Should Christians Defend Themselves?

Question: Steve from Michigan called Irvin to ask, if we are attacked shouldn’t we as Christians defend ourselves?

 

Answer:  This is a very sensitive and controversial point here because most people say we have to defend ourselves.  Yes, in Jesus’ time He said that if you live by the sword you will die by the sword. And of the twelve apostles, eleven of them died a martyrs death and we don’t have any records of them fighting back. Nations will go to war and we can’t do anything about that. But once we start deciding that Christians should go to war and that they can fight against other nations, what exactly do you do about Christians in other nations? It will be Christians fighting Christians and I don’t think anyone would like to do that. Those are my thoughts; it is a very difficult subject but I think we shouldn’t live by the sword or we will die by the sword.
